THE TROUBLE ALL STARTED ON JIM'S 56th BIRTHDAY!

Jim's birthday landed on a Sunday & work day so we took his birthday party/bbq to the firestation. Aaron, Becki, & Tre went for a visit earlier due to a family dinner they had with Becki's family. Jacob had a big pharmacology test he needed to prepare for so he unfortunately was not able to make it. We all had a great time visiting, eating, riding in the firetruck, watching the huge 747 land & take off, and a Nelson twirl-about contest. Jim was trying to be a good sport & enjoy the day even though he was having continual abdominal pain. As always, Jim insisted on bbq'ing the meat himself.

The following day Jim ended up in the ER (no picture to document this moment) for several hours. He had a ct scan, ultasound, & blood work. He was sent home with an antibiotic, pain med, & anti fungal medication. Diagnosis: diverticulitis. Jim stayed in bed for 3 more days while the pain continued. Two dr's appts later...they sent him back to the ER where he was admitted. More tests. Diagnosis: unknown. Possible gall bladder, appendix, or partial colon removal. Jim continued the iv antibiotics & pain meds.

Exploratory surgery Sunday morning equals many nervous people!!

Results: an infarction of the omentum, the surgeon removed the necrotic portion (which basically means, some of the tissue that supports the intestines got twisted and died) & the dr. repaired a hernia while he was in there.

Here we are celebrating the great news, we are so thankful for the outcome of the surgery!!

Just coming out of anesthesia...we had a good laugh when Jim struggled to put his glasses on so he could see the picture Jacob was showing him of the surgery.

Unfortunately, things got worse before they got better! He got an infection in the hernia site. Stronger iv antibiotics & more pain medications & more time in the hospital.

After 11 days in bed (1 week in the hospital) he was finally able to go home!! He is on a 4th antibiotic, more pain meds, 6 wks off work due to no lifting over 20 lbs, and many more days of rest.

Thank goodness for work & modern technology which kept me connected to the outside world (although it made for some very long days)!

We are so thankful for each other & our health, the Priesthood, our kids & their spouses who love their Dad, grandkids who wanted their Papa to get better quickly, and for friends & family...we felt everyones love, prayers, concern, and support!!
